Spotty Muldoon is calling

Off to London tomorrow for a few days, at short notice. Baby E's parents both have work commitments, and poor Baby E is unable to go to the nursery he usually attends twice a week, because....

....he has chickenpox.

This possibility had occurred to me the moment I clapped eyes on him when he arrived in Italy, as I always think there is a distinctive 'look' with chickenpox, a sort of washed-out shabby greyness. I'd even asked L if she'd had it before, knowing that we all had. But Baby E remained spot-free. After his return home, he started producing the distinctive blisters, and while far less unwell than earlier, is still under the weather.

The cavalry, aka Grandma, has been called for, and has responded with alacrity. I look forward to having him all to myself during the day.

The Gardener will hold the fort here, although as his cold carries on making him miserable, I'm on the alert for tell-tale spots appearing on him too. So far so good. One Spotty Herbert in the family is enough at any one time.

It's at times like this that we wish we lived closer, but then where would Baby E come for his seaside holidays?

    1. Thanks, Val. I think the baby's parents have had a rude awakening about how many germs small children bring with them!

  2. I think George VI was on the throne when I had that wretched pox! We were very democratic and generous in those days - shared with everyone!

    1. I remember our family chickenpox, as well our family measles, and our family mumps!

  3. Poor little man. Hope he is feeling better soon. At least he has got it while quite young. Better than when he is adult!! Enjoy your time with him.

  4. As he is probably now on the mend he will be able to appreciate your loving ministrations and have fun with you.

  5. Spotty Muldoon... we used to say that. But who was this unfortunate? Must consult Mr Google.
Poor little E! Hope he's not too bad.

  7. Sweet little man, so glad his grandma is available to give him the tender loving care he needs right now.

  8. Poor little scrap !
At least now he's 'broken out', he won't feel quite so ghastly.

There's a really old fashioned and mildly messy way to soothe the itching , which is worth a try .... swirl a handful of dry oatflakes in a bath of warmish water and dunk him in it for a few minutes . Don't know why it works , but it does .
    Good luck !

  9. Oh no - now I have the Spotty Muldoon song playing in my head!!
Poor little soul, although at least that gets one of the childhood illnesses over with.

  10. Oh, I hope your poorly boys recover completely soon. The change of seasons at this time of the year seems to make us very vulnerable to ailments. At least you will have had some nice weather in London I hope, enough to recharge everyone's batteries. Monday was October's final fling, and having some sunshine at least reconciled me to the end of our indian summer.

PS Just checking in from my own Vintage machine (can't even face the humiliation of trying to get help to re-establish the mysterious disappearance of functioning email, so I just commute from ipad/ phone to the occasional luxury of a keypad where writing comments is a more enjoyable activity).
